The Memory Behind the Mission

MARION, Va.

Charles Wade "CW" Cox, age 69, died Monday, October 9, 2017 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, N.C. He was born April 17, 1948 in Crockett, Va. to the late Charles Marco and Ovella Kincer Cox. Charlie was a kind, kind man – family was the love of his life.

He was married to Merrianne for almost 50 years. Charlie was so proud of his daughter Terri, her husband, Donny Harold, and his grandchildren; Dustin and Morgan. He was their PapPooh and always will be.

Most of Charlie's work life was at Smyth County Machine and Welding, and Home and Auto True Value Hardware. He loved to hunt, fish, and golf. Charlie also enjoyed his time serving in the Kiwanis Club of Marion, and worshipping at First United Methodist Church also of Marion.

As mentioned in this obituary above, Charlie was known by everyone for his kindness and that legacy is what is driving this mission of ensuring that everyone in need of compassion and lodging has a place to stay. He was so blessed and thankful for the SECU Family House in Winston-Salem, NC during his illness and the friends that he made there who were traveling a similar path.

He was a good man, and will be missed.
